The Solar Energy Technologies Office is the office within the Energy Department that manages solar research and development. We are the same office that launched the SunShot Initiative,
but our name now reflects our broader focus. Your biweekly newsletter may look a little different but it has the same goal: to give you a quick rundown of everything you need to know about our funding and advanced solar research. Same office, same people,
same passion for solar. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Small Solar Businesses Eligible for Funding
DOE’s Office of Science recently released the latest round of funding in its Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) program. This release includes
four solar energy topics spanning cybersecurity to innovative financing mechanisms. Applicants are required to submit a mandatory letter of intent by January 8.

Blog Post: Ask a Scientist
As part of a new blog series that asks Energy Department researchers about their lives as scientists working with energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies, this post
highlights Dr. Sarah Kurtz of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Sarah joined NREL in 1985 and is best known for her work in III-V multi-junction cells and for her efforts to improve the reliability and quality of solar energy systems. Read

Follow-on Funding Opportunity for Previous Awardees
The California
Energy Commission recently released a new funding opportunity to help commercialize energy efficiency technology. The funding is available to companies and organizations who have previously received funding from a program office within the Office of Energy
Efficiency and Renewable Energy, but have not yet been able to commercialize their products. All SETO awardees who successfully concluded their awards with the federal government in the last 12 months are eligible to apply. Learn

Technology to Market 3 Projects Launch
Projects in the Technology
to Market 3 funding program are now officially underway. These projects are developing products to leverage new and emerging technologies, increase system values while reducing hardware costs, improve business operational efficiency, expand the investor
pool for project development, and increase consumer access to solar. Detailed descriptions of all 18 projects are now available.

Apply for Science and Technology Policy Opportunity with DOE's Solar Office
Are you part of the next generation of scientific leaders in solar energy? If so, apply today for the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education
Science and Technology Policy Opportunity. The opportunity enables talented scientists and engineers to participate in projects integral to the mission of the Solar Energy Technologies Office to make solar energy more affordable and reliable. This includes
contributing to the design of national research and development strategies for advancing photovoltaic and concentrated solar power technology and other technologies that enable better solar integration with the grid. Participants are expected to apply the
expertise gained from their scientific education and research experiences to assist in developing and managing new and ongoing projects. The opportunity is available to applicants holding bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. degrees of all quantitative backgrounds
as well as applicants with relevant post-degree experience. Learn
