My suggestions aren’t related to a specific tool, but you may find the resources helpful. I took a Counseling Diverse Population course. Derald Wing Sue and David Sue are great resources – they developed multicultural competencies for the field of counseling. They may have a tool that you can use/modify. In the same class we also read an article “Ten Frequent Assumptions of Cultural Bias in Counseling” (Pederson, 1987). It’s an old source  but I’ve often thought about using it as a discussion tool with our tutors. There is a lot of information in the article that can transfer to the tutoring field.

Hope that helps,

Subject: cultural awareness assessment

I am hoping to focus a study on cultural awareness of tutors as a result of tutoring and I am at a loss trying to find an assessment tool.  Obviously, something already in existence would be best.  Having said that, I was wondering if anyone uses an assessment tool for tutors to complete that measures their perception of cultural awareness.  I am open to lots of formats.  Thanks, all.
