The 19th International Conference on Intelligent Data Engineering and Automated Learning (IDEAL 2018)

Special session on Intelligent techniques for the analysis of scientific articles and patents

                                                           21-23 November, 2018, Madrid, Spain
Important dates: Submission of papers to Special Sessions & Workshops 31 July 2018

The International Conference on Intelligent Data Engineering and Automated Learning (IDEAL) is an annual international conference dedicated to emerging and challenging topics in intelligent data analysis, data mining and their associated learning systems and paradigms. Its core themes include: the Big Data challenges, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Information Retrieval and Management, Bio- and Neuro-Informatics, Bio-Inspired Models (including Neural Networks, Evolutionary Computation and Swarm Intelligence), Agents and Hybrid Intelligent Systems, and Real-world Applications of Intelligent Techniques. Other related and emerging themes and topics are also welcome.

Included in the general conference, we are organising a special session on Intelligent techniques for the analysis of scientific articles and patents.

Scope of the special session

Nowadays, the activities related with the research and development, produce a large amount of data and documents in form of publications, such as, papers, patents, doctoral theses, conference contributions, reports, etc. Moreover, the total volume of scientific and technological data available, is growing year by year. From a traditional point of view, the information used to be indexed in bibliographical databases (e.g., Web of Science, Scopus, etc.), patents databases. (e.g., European Patent Office, United States Patent and Trademark Office, etc.), or indeed in public or private repositories.
This large amount of digital scholarly and technological data offers great opportunities to explore and analyze the patterns and trends that characterize the structure and evolution of science. That, the Science of Science is focused in the analysis of the research output combining computational and social scientists.

Objectives and Scope

The main aim of this special issue is to put the focus on the application of intelligent techniques based on artificial intelligence, complex systems, data mining and information retrieval in order to extract the hidden knowledge within the research activities, and track patterns and trends.

Potential topics of interest include but are not limited to:
  • Communities discovery and clustering algorithms
  • Entity disambiguation
  • Scientific sentiment analysis
  • Citation and impact prediction
  • Information retrieval systems for bibliographic and patent data
  • New model representation
  • Manuel J. Cobo. Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Granada, Spain.
  • Pietro Ducange. SMART Engineering Solutions & Technologies (SMARTEST), eCampus University, Italy.
  • Antonio Gabriel López-Herrera. Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, University of Granada, Spain.s
  • Enrique Herrera-Viedma. Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, University of Granada, Spain.
Instruction for authors

Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts (in pdf format) written in English by the deadline via the conference online submission system (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ideal2018). All submissions will be refereed by experts in the field based on originality, significance, quality and clarity. All contributions must be original, should not have been published elsewhere and must not be submitted elsewhere during the review period.

The nominal length of each paper is 8 pages and any paper that exceeds this limit will incur extra page charges on the registration form. In any cases, a paper must not exceed 12 LNCS pages. Papers must comply with the format of Springer LNCS/LNAI Proceedings. (see www.springer.com/lncs)

Submission to Workshop/Special Sessions using one of the following methods:
  • Please submit using the IDEAL 2018 submission link as above as to the main track but make note of the paper ID after the submission. Then email the paper ID and Special Session name to [[log in to unmask]]
  • Add the Workshop or Special Session name to the first line of the abstract when submitting using the IDEAL 2018 submission link.
Please, do not hesitate to contact with us for further support

Best Regards,

Manuel Jesús.
