Indeed, I share the thoughts of Katie Faust and Alvin Wolfe.  I will miss Lin very much.
Perhaps at the next Social Networks conference (Sunbelt 2019?) we might have a special
session about Lin, his work, and his intellectual influence on us.

Thanks, Katie, for passing on the sad word of Lin’s passing.  He was indeed a “towering figure” whom I first met at Northwestern in about 1954. It is remarkable that I can say I have admired him for 64 years!

Dear Social Network Community,

I am very sad to report that Lin Freeman passed away this morning. Lin was a towering figure in social network analysis, contributor to many foundational topics in the field, author of the book The Development of Social Network Analysis: A Study in the Sociology of Science, and an early developer of UCINET.  Lin was a wonderful friend and mentor to many of us, and I know he will be deeply missed.
