Dear Colleagues and Students,

Please join us for a series of timely events in recognition of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and 16 days of activism against gender-based violence (see attached flyer for details).

We've heard from many of you about the stress and need for community in the face of persistent incidents of hate-based violence, including gender-based and sexual violence. You may have seen the article in the Chronicle<https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2018/10/22/author-discusses-how-realistic-campus-consent-policies-are?utm_source=Inside+Higher+Ed&utm_campaign=c93c2ef59d-DNU20181022_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_1fcbc04421-c93c2ef59d-197525257&mc_cid=c93c2ef59d&mc_eid=903a1adb2c> which advocates for treating "sexual violence and harassment as systemic, intellectually rigorous issues, worthy of faculty research and classroom time." Join us in taking up this important call as a community of scholars, teachers, students, and practitioners.

Food and refreshments will be served:

  * 27 November 3pm, Ustler Hall - Panel discussion: "Ending Violence Against Women in Our Communities."
  * 5 December 6pm, Ustler Hall - Screening of the documentary, Anita: Speaking Truth to Power, with a facilitated discussion.
  * 10 December 3:30pm, Ustler Hall - World Human Rights Day: Public Lecture by Dr. Maddy Coy, "Violence Against Women in a Human Rights Framework."
Beginning November 12th, come into the Ustler Hall lobby during business hours, and add your voice to the #HearMeToo board!

Please distribute this invitation and attached flyer to your networks. I hope you will attend, and bring your friends and colleagues.
Bonnie
