Our center stays open, but with limited staff for our most popular subjects. We tend to still be busy at the beginning of the week and steadily fall off after Wednesday. I will staff 1-2 people "just in case" at the end of the week but tend to utilize them for some end of semester projects/clean up.

Our center stays open by appointment only and appointments are with professional staff, no undergrad consultants.  The consultants are so busy with their own finals that it is unfair to ask them to work.  We find that we have very few appointments and can easily meet the needs of students who ask.

Hi Loren,

I do have my subject tutoring and writing center open during finals.  But as exams take happen during the final exam week, I then pare down what’s offered for tutoring so that by the end it’s just one or two subjects and just a handful of tutors left.

Best,

John Paul

Subject: Keeping Tutoring Center Open During Finals Week?

Greetings!

Every semester our tutoring center struggles with whether to remain open during finals week.

Our data shows that very few students (under 20) use our center during finals, but we always close the writing center.

Do any of you keep your tutoring centers open during this week (tutoring for math, science, and humanities)? If so (or not), would you be willing to share your rationale?

Thank you so much!

Loren
