Max Planck Department of Collective Behaviour
Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour

The Integrative Field Biology Lab (Max Planck Department of Collective Behaviour, Konstanz) is searching for a Postdoctoral Fellow and/or PhD candidate to study information flow and influence in social networks. The project will examine how the adaptive value of social behaviour is modified by broader social structure, as part of a Human Frontiers funded collaboration with the Peleg and Meroz labs examining shading interactions in sunflower groups.

The project will be primarily theoretical/analytical, drawing on datasets generated from experiments with sunflowers, as well as existing datasets of animal social behaviour. Analytical work will be performed in collaboration with the Life Science Informatics group. Additionally, our lab has a broad focus on understanding social behaviour in wild systems, and empirical field work on cichlid fish, social spider, sunflower, or coral reef systems is possible and encouraged. Experience or interest in network analysis, network theory, or evolutionary modelling is preferred. The position is for two years, with expected start date mid to late 2019.
