I have signed on for this lunch - as you will have seen if all went well with your website. But I have a very strong protest about the organization of this event. It seems to
have been defined as something having relevance only for social network specialists which I view as a
very narrow constructional approach. Yes, while I understand this focus, I have to state emphatically that social relations in our field
extend far further than the relations of those of us who actually do network research.
In this context, I have to add that while Lin had a truly major impact on our field, Sue Freeman who seems to have been forgotten in the arrangement of this event, also had an important influence.
I think that this apparent exclusion this as appalling. Both of them had great impacts on the lives of others in our community - on both the research front and socially in the organization of our field. This had great value and extended well beyond to network
researchers. In my view, this must never be forgotten. If you had bothered to read my tribute to Lin AND Sue in Connections, you will have some understanding of my protest.
But you may think that I am a totally deluded and ancient idiot focused too much on the social relations of our field. Fair enough - but, as I see it, the organization of this event totally
denies the the role that Lin AND Sue both played. I will show up, accompanied by my wife who was very close to both Lin and Sue, as I was. Of course, as a spouse of a network analyst, you will think her presence will be worthless. If you choose
to exclude her presence because of her lesser status relative the august members of the social network research community, so be it. In case you have not noticed, I am really pissed about the organization of this event. If changes could be made to reflect
my objections, I will appreciate them greatly.

***** Dear all,
As you know, Lin Freeman passed away last August. With Sunbelt 2019 coming up soon, we wanted to organized a memorial tribute during the conference, but to respect Lin’s own preference about that type of events, we will keep this light.
We have organized a lunch during which close colleagues and friends have agreed to share memories. The lunch will happen on Wednesday, the 19th from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Those of you who have known Lin may want to join us for this event. If you so desire, please inform us by filling this short form before June 1st: https://forms.gle/CH9c5WZHPpFxGPgi7.
I would like to thank Steve Borgatti and Katie Faust for their invaluable help in organizing this event.
Looking forward to seeing you in Montreal.
