14th June, 09:00-16:00
Instructor: Dr Elisa Bellotti (The University of Manchester)
The workshop focuses on research design and data analysis using egonets. The students will be firstly introduced to the concept of egonets and its theoretical foundations. We will then focus on egonets data collection using both quantitative and qualitative tools, and egonets analysis using Ucinet (Borgatti, S.P., Everett, M.G. and Freeman, L.C. 2002. Ucinet 6 for Windows: Software for Social Network Analysis. Harvard, MA: Analytic Technologies). Case studies from empirical research will be used to illustrate egonets research design and how to use the analytical tools in a concrete empirical context. A series of hands-on exercises will help the students to familiarize with data collection tools and the software. Students are required to bring their own laptop with a trial version of Ucinet installed.
