I know it’s not the answer you want, but I always did it manually. There are too many factors in my estimation to automate it—tutors who support more than one subject, providing enough coverage for each subject, ensuring that newer tutors aren’t overwhelmed with particularly demanding shifts, trying some overlap of newer with experienced tutors so they can set up a mentoring relationship, ensuring there’s sufficient overlap with at least one administrator weekly for each tutor for observation and consultation purposes, who supports upper level vs. only lower level classes in a subject, and more.
A computer programming student offered to create an in-house software for me once for this task, but by the time we reached the third variable he was shaking his head.
I respect that other folks may disagree, but this is one of those tasks for me where I think the old-fashioned approach and personalized touch is still the best.
What you may want to do is assign different divisions to your assistants and then meet to compare notes. Some terms I asked our peer tutoring coordinator and associate director to each take a division while I worked on others. It reduced the time on some levels.

I am a bit newer to this forum and it has been extremely helpful, so I wanted to see if I can receive any suggestions or guidance with my question:
What do you use to schedule peer leaders in your centers and programs? We have 250 - 300 peer leaders employed through our Learning Centers who work in lectures and recitations and we mainly use Google Forms to collect student availability and use Google Sheets to manually arrange their schedules. I am interested in hearing from other learning centers about ways you have been able to automate your scheduling process, such as through certain software or programming (or anything else outside of the box!).
