The UF Health Cancer Center is seeking an intern to join the Federal Relations team in the University’s Washington DC office in Spring 2020.

 

As a Cancer Policy Intern, you will focus primarily on legislative support related to cancer policy and will gain unique exposure to the inner workings of the US Government in the advancement of the University’s education and research missions.

 

During the course of your internship you will be responsible for assisting the Cancer Center Director and Senior Leadership with identifying, monitoring, and reporting on issues of importance to the University of Florida as well as assisting with UF faculty and administrator visits to Washington, DC and supporting special projects and events. You will also track legislative activity, attend hearings, draft hearing reports and legislative updates, and attend higher education and coalition meetings. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work as a health policy intern supporting the House Energy & Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over most health care matters.

 

In addition, you will also be expected to complete a primary project and support the continuation or completion of secondary projects. Throughout, you will participate in regular calls and/or video conferences with your academic mentor/team, demonstrate effective legislative support related to the Director’s agenda, and present a policy brief from your primary project at the completion of your internship.

 

This internship is an integral and important part of the team charged with proactively supporting the University of Florida’s agenda on a national level and in ensuring UF is a leading expert voice on important issues. As a representative of UF, you will be expected to conduct yourself respectfully at all times in a manner consistent with the UF Student Code of Conduct.

 

This position is open to any University of Florida degree-seeking graduate or professional student in good standing, with a demonstrated interest in health policy.
