Dear Graduate Coordinators and Staff:
We have some exciting news to share regarding the GatorGradCare health insurance enrollment process. As you may be aware, graduate assistants participating in GatorGradCare have been required to re-enroll each academic year in order to continue their health insurance coverage under the plan. Beginning in Fall 2020, active summer GatorGradCare plan participants will not need to re-enroll for the following academic year if their GA appointment is continuing in fall. Participants will continue to be covered under the plan for the remainder of their assistantship appointment. Current GatorGradCare participants will be notified of this change directly.
Newly hired graduate assistants must enroll in GatorGradCare within 60 days of their date of hire if they wish to participate in plan coverage since enrollment is not automatic. Newly hired GAs may submit the GatorGradCare enrollment in myUFL’s self-service portal after their GA job is entered in PeopleSoft. If there is a delay in the hiring process and the GA job is entered in PeopleSoft over 60 days after the date of hire, the GA should contact the GA Benefits Office for assistance as soon as the job is entered in PeopleSoft.
GatorGradCare participants may make a change to their plan coverage within 60 days of a qualifying status change event (birth, marriage, etc.) and during the annual employee benefits open enrollment period each fall (beginning in 2020). Open enrollment changes are effective January 1st. GAs who experience a qualifying status change event should contact the GA Benefits Office for enrollment information.
As a reminder, hiring departments should use the most current version of the GA letter of employment from the Appointment Letter Library, rather than a saved version, to ensure accurate information is provided to graduate assistants.
