We’re a small four-year private institution, and we generally do appointments. However, all of our students are commuters (we don’t have on-campus housing) and are usually working adults with competing priorities, so if they stop by and we are available, we do work with them (we use WCONLINE as our online scheduling system, which gives an option to mark an appointment as a walk-in, so I have my tutors note the appointment accordingly – this helps with data collection).

We do both drop-in and appointment based tutoring. We are a two-year college.

Fellow Learning Center Administrators,

I am interested in finding out how many Centers operate with open labs as opposed to by appointment only tutoring.  It seems that community colleges often rely on open labs, given the number of students taking advantage of tutoring.  The fact that most students in community colleges are commuters attending to a myriad of responsibilities, prohibits a good number of students from making and keeping appointments.

Do your Centers use open labs, appointments, or a combination?  Are you a two-year or four-year institution?  Thanks for any responses.
