MEMORANDUM

Date:

April 16, 2020

To:

All Graduate Deans, Associate Deans, School Directors, Department Chairs, Coordinators and Staff

From:

UF Graduate School

RE:

Update on Temporary Waiver of In-Person Attendance Requirements for Oral Examinations and Final Defenses

For both Spring and Summer A/C Semesters 2020, the Graduate School will waive the requirement for physical presence (usually of the Supervisory Committee Chair/Co-Chair and the candidate) in accomplishing final oral examinations, final thesis defenses, final dissertation defenses and the like, to facilitate conducting such examinations in an electronic medium, utilizing Zoom, or some similar on-line mechanism, at the discretion of the academic units.
It continues to be expected that such events will occur in "real-time" with the candidate and all committee members participating together.
Academic units are asked to devise a mechanism for obtaining and retaining the required faculty signatures and then submitting the outcomes of the exams and defenses electronically into SIS (Student Information System) promptly.
The Graduate School continues to monitor the developing situation due to coronavirus (COVID-19) with all other UF authorities and will keep you posted if further changes to policy or procedure are deemed prudent.
