In resorting to IELTS/TOEFL alternatives, your program will remain responsible for coordinating remedial English if the admittee's academic performance shows need for it. 2. For appointment to a teaching assistantship (TA), current policy remains in force. Florida law requires teaching assistantship appointees to demonstrate -before they are assigned teaching duties - adequate English skills for teaching in the classroom, laboratory, or other instructional venue, be it in person or online. In the absence of acceptable TOEFL Speaking Portion scores, our on-campus SPEAK Test, offered through Academic Spoken English (ase.ufl.edu<https://ase.ufl.edu/>), will remain the means to meet that statutory requirement for employment as a teaching assistant with assigned instructional duties.
