Updated State Inventory Tool for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Now Available

Ever used our free State Inventory Tool (SIT) for greenhouse gas emissions? We have updated it with 2018 emissions and other data including new forest carbon data. We have also updated our Projection Tool. Use these tools to create a historical emissions inventory (1990-2018) and a simple forecast of your state’s emissions through 2050.

Access the State Inventory Tool< >

Additional updates include:

· Agricultural soil carbon flux data and disaggregated carbon flux data for Forest Land Remaining Forest Land, Forest Land Converted to Land, and Land Converted to Forest Land for 1990-2018 in the Land-use, Land-use Change, and Forestry (LULUCF) module.
· Population, municipal solid waste generation, national waste disposal by type, and methane avoided from landfill gas flared and landfill gas to energy (LFGTE) projects based on U.S. EPA’s Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) in the Solid Waste module.
· Livestock population and crop production in the Agriculture module.
· Non-energy consumption, energy consumption, and synthetic natural gas production in the CO2FFC module.
· Coal mining production and abandoned coal mining activity data in the Coal module.
· Residential, commercial, transportation, and industrial end-use equipment activity data and Emissions & Generation Resource Integrated Database (eGRID) factors for 2018 in the Electricity Consumption module.
· Cement production, magnesium production, lime production, nitrogen production, semiconductor emissions, electricity sales, aluminum production, ODS substitute emissions, soda ash production and consumption, and population in the Industrial Processes module.
· Highway vehicle miles traveled (VMT), alternative fuel VMT, and activity data for marine, locomotive, farm, construction and other sources in the Mobile Combustion module.
· Data on oil production, refining, and transportation; well count; natural gas production; and natural gas vented and flared in the Natural Gas and Oil module.
· Non-energy consumption, energy consumption, and synthetic natural gas production in the Stationary Combustion module.
· Population and protein consumption, including red meat consumption, in the Wastewater module.
· The Projection Tool has also been updated to project emissions from liming and urea fertilization, so that all Agriculture source categories that are estimated in the Agriculture module are also included in the Projection Tool.

Pro Tip: When importing data from the SIT modules into the Projection Tool, please be sure to use the latest version of the tools. Rows in a previous version of the SIT may not align with rows in the latest Projection Tool due to the addition of new source categories. Please use the latest version of each SIT module with the latest version of the Projection Tool so the data can be imported correctly.

You will be asked to provide some basic optional information on the tool download page. We collect this information on a voluntary basis to better track who is using the State Inventory Tool and how it is being used. We use this information to alert users about updates or corrections, and to inform future tool enhancements.
