A few years back I went from Peer Tutors to Academic Mentors.  I have had success in removing the stigma associated with tutoring and even have students introduce their mentors to their friends.

Hi Julie,

We have two academic coaching programs housed in our center. One is geared specifically to students in our College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences who didn’t place into the college’s major-required math courses (Early Assist). The other supports students from any college who either self-select into the program or are recommended to or required to attend because they are on academic probation (Assistance, Coaching, and Empowerment, or ACE).

Best,

Susana

Hi Julie,

We call ours Peer Academic Coaching, but will be rebranding in the Fall 2021 term to Peer Coaching because students seemed not to fully grasp the wonderful range of programming our Coaches supported. https://ryerson.ca/trsm-success-pac.

We added it not too long ago, we call it Academic Success Coaching. We started with one full-time person and it was so popular that we added 10 part-time coaches. They get a case load of students to contact and follow up with along with the walk-ins. We love it!

I am curious if your center has branded academic coaching with a program name or if you simply refer to it as academic coaching?  I'd love to hear from you either way and shoot me a link to your website on academic coaching. Thanks a bunch, we are evaluating a few things here in Aurora 🙂
