Hi Julie,

We moved quickly (too quickly, I am finding) to rebrand our College Skills Zone to Academic Coaching last summer. We did the name change because the format of our delivery changed as well as the program model, allowing us to focus on study skill development rather than grammar development with a little study skills thrown in. We also changed names to get more buy-in from students and remove the stigma of going to a study skills tutor. 

We are doing supplemental instruction in study skills from a strengths perspective, and what I am finding is that other professionals across campus who have a deep understanding of coaching from a Disability Services perspective or a Counseling perspective attach a very different meaning to "coaching" then what WE mean. More promotion to campus is needed for clarity! Consequently, I have added "College Skills" back into our name: Academic Coaching and College Skills.
