Roberta,

We offer a 3-credit, 300 level course that also meets a writing requirement in our core curriculum. We've had it since 2011 and have done some assessment on it that is very promising. The past year we moved to a hybrid model with one synchronous class meeting and one asynchronous learning module per week. Both the student feedback and the quality of their work has been fantastic. I'm happy to share more details if you're interested.

Hi Roberta,

At LSS, all of our tutors are required to take a 2-unit peer educator course taught by our learning center Director or Assistant Directors. The class is offered each quarter and we are in the process of having it be CRLA certified. In addition to that, we offer regular onboarding training for new & returning tutors, preparation training, TutorTrac training, and other training in collaboration with other units (we're doing a neurodiverse training this quarter with our Disability Resource Center office as well as a self-efficacy training with an instructor at UCSC). Part of our CRLA certification process includes the 2nd level and we've been holding those for returning tutors as well. Happy to answer questions about the class or the process with folks if they email me individually.

Hi Roberta—

Our writing tutors are trained in a one credit course led by a literature/writing professor and they take it in the fall of the year they start tutoring.  No certifications associated with the course.  They can also take it for zero credit, but they do need to take it.  This is for writing tutors only, unique to their specialty.

Hello LISTSERV,

Can you tell me if you offer a credit bearing course as a forum to train your tutors, coaches, mentors, etc?

If so, please share some of the details such as credit or non, how much credit is awarded, is it the only training you offer for that position, does it run concurrently with the practice (tutoring, etc.)who teaches it, is it CRLA certified,  and any other info that might be relevant.

Thanks in advance,

Roberta
