overseeing the daily operations of the Tutoring Center and creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for learning. In order to promote equitable student access and success, the Support Specialist fosters empowering academic and social
experiences through active listening, affirmation, and genuine empathy that honors each student’s journey and experience. This is accomplished through a broad scope of responsibilities that focus on keeping marginalized and minoritized students at the
center of our work. Listening, observing, valuing and validating, embracing, and
building meaningful relationships with students in the Tutoring Center is at the heart of this position. General tasks include coaching and supervision of part-time center team members, acting as program liaison and student advocate, and contributing
to the establishment of antiracist program standards, services, and procedures. This position reports to the Tutoring Center Manager and the successful incumbent will
work collaboratively with a dynamic team that provides holistic and culturally sustainable academic support services that normalize the idea of a
support network and dismantle deficit conceptions. The peer academic support centers are the
lighthouse to several curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs. The centers
partner with numerous instructional and non-instructional student programs
across the college creating a community of support. This position requires consistent and regular attendance.

Required Qualifications:

Associate degree with an area of focus in Education, Administration Business, or related field. |

Commitment to engaging in the advancement of equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education and to serving marginalized students.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse community with a high degree of customer service.

Experience working with students who have been marginalized including those who may be economically disadvantaged, first-generation, and/or first time in college.

Ability to effectively juggle competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
ˇ
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, demonstrating cultural awareness and responsiveness.

Proficiently in MS Office Suite including the use of spreadsheet software, such as Microsoft Excel, to create, modify (using basic formulas and functions), integrateestablished templates, and properly

Terms of Employment:
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) classified, overtime-eligible position with Pierce College District. The primary work location will be at either the Puyallup or Fort Steilacoom campuses but
frequent travel to Pierce College campuses or sites may occur. Work hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position may be subject to reassignment between campuses or sites.
Salary & Benefits:
The
starting salary range of
this position is
$3,216.00 - $3,701.00
a month (dependent upon
qualifications), with annual periodic increments
up to $4,188.00. However,
your paycheck is just
part of the total
compensation package. There is
an outstanding benefits package which
is worth an additional
value equivalent to about
30% of your salary.
