THOMAS The University of St. Thomas invites nominations and applications for the position of Director, Professional Development Centers, to begin July 1995. The non-degree outreach programs began at the University of St. Thomas with establishment of the Management Center in 1957. Particularly with the new Minneapolis Campus opening in September 1992, the Graduate School of Business has expanded the number of Centers and Institutes that offer non- credit/non-degree programming to meet the life-long educational needs of individuals and training needs of organizations in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metropolitan Area. The Graduate School of Business has 14 Centers and Institutes that provide education and training for over 15,000 participants per year. The Director is responsible for overall leadership and coordination of the Graduate School of Business (GSB) non- degree outreach Centers and Institutes. The position reports to the dean. The Director will lead a collaborative effort to develop vision and strategies for meeting the continuing professional development needs of the community for the next decade and beyond. In addition, this individual will direct the Management Center, which is the largest of the GSB Centers and Institutes. The Management Center consists of 15 employees and currently produces over 400 seminars/workshops per year for 8,000 participants in areas such as management and supervision, human resources, marketing, quality/productivity, interpersonal and writing skills, training and a series of non-credit "mini masters." The Director will interface with academic programs and work with faculty in developing synergy with the degree programs. The Director will lead GSB Centers/Institutes in developing a centralized service function to support activities common to all Centers and Institutes. The Director is responsible for center fiscal management, and fund raising and resource development. The person will facilitate continuing growth of outreach function for GSB in the region by building strong relationships with business, non-profit, and public communities. Qualifications * Ability to network in the community and comfortable being highly visible * Experience in various organizational settings * Ability to work with diverse activities and personalities * Understanding of the community needs and market * Understanding of life-long learning * Comfortable with ambiguity and leading a change effort * Familiar with advanced learning technologies * Recognize opportunities for professional development * High level of communication skills * Management/Executive leadership experience * Experience in delivering and managing non-degree education is desirable * Demonstrated people skills and ability to delegate, and able to develop a participative team environment * An advanced degree is desired. Salary The salary for this position is competitive. The position is available July 1995.
