You requested information about a study done by ETS comparing
paper/pencil tests and computer tests. The College Board has compiled
a series of articles in a booklet entitled COMPUTERIZED PLACEMENT TESTS:
bACKGROUND READINGS. In this booklet is a summary of the results of
several comparisons made between the adaptive computerized test of basic
skills and conventional tests. The findings reveal "little to no effect
on the accuracy with which skills are measured." Also, "correcting for
the reliabilities of the tests, the relationships between the paper and
computerized tests are nearly perfect." (1991, p. 19)
