In "Codependency: Teaching Tutors Not to Rescue" (The Journal of College Reading and Learning, 1991), Karin Winnard says in her conclusion," Learning assistance program administrators need to take a step forward individulally and as a group, to make it clear to the education community the THE GOAL OF TUTORING IS NOT TO PROVIDE THE SOLUTION FOR THE TUTEES BUT TO EMPOWER EACH TUTEE WITH TEH NECESSARY SKILLS TO EXPERIENCE THE PROCESS AND ARRIVE AT A SOLUTION" (emphasis added). What do YOU take this to mean? If this is your goal of tutoring, what do you actually do to reach the goal? Jim Bell Ph.
