Those of you who are interested in making computers a key part of a learning
center program might want to talk with Sue Hawkins at Daytona Beach CC. She
has developed a large physical center, with about 60-70 machines, to support
the developmental program. It's part of a curriculum revision which requires
every student in a developmental course to spend some time in the learning
center using CAI. Although open for just a year, it's already attracting
involvement of non-d.e. faculty (e.g. a chemistry instructor has written a
whole series of software to support his courses; a music teacher has her
students come to the center to use selected CD-ROM's). Neat set-up. You
need to call Sue at 904-255-8131: she's not on internet yet.
