CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Evaluate the admissions profiles of entering Special Support Services undergraduate students and review first-year course selections, given DELI profile indicators. 2. Participate in preregistration and registration activities. 3. Counsel a student caseload of 300 to 500. 4. Serve as a member of internal and external committees as assigned. 5. Participate in University orientation/registration programs for entering undergraduate students. 6. Assist with the preparation, coordination, presentation of Special Support Services orientation programs. 7. Prepare special studies and/or reports. 8. Recommend and develop new academic support programs or modifications to existing academic support programs to increase retention and graduation. 9. Coordinate departmental programs, as assigned. 10. Assist in the preparation and planning of programs on scholarships, careers, postbaccalaureate education, and majors, e.g., graduate and professional application and information workshops. 11. Develop and maintain a summer research and internship and scholarship databank, as well as contact qualified/interested students. 12. Other responsibilities as assigned by Director. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision is received from the Coordinator of Academic Support Programs of Special Support Services. Further coordination occurs with the Director and the Assistant Director for Administration. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Functional supervision is exercised over four to six part-time student employees and assigned support staff. QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT: A bachelor's degree in liberal arts or related area or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is required. Minimum of one year's experience interacting with students and colleagues from diverse ethnic backgrounds is required. Minimum of one year's experience in student counseling, advising, and/or teaching is required. Persons fluent in Spanish or a major Southeast Asian language are encouraged to apply. Some travel and evening and/or weekend work is required.
