The Department of Elementary, Bilingual, and Reading Education is a dynamic department with an outstanding faculty. The Reading Program within the department has achieved national recognition for its innovative curriculum designed to meet the academic reading, critical thinking, and information competence needs of college students as part of their general education experience. The department is seeking enthusiastic , energetic, and flexible individuals interested in assisting in the further development of the Reading Program to correspond to the emerging research in college student outcomes and workplace preparation needs. Starting Date: August, 1998 Rank/Salary: Lecturer (one year position renewable up to three years). Salary commensurate to rank, experience, and qualifications. Responsibilities: Teach courses primarily in the undergraduate reading curriculum with an emphasis on critical thinking and reading under the general education framework. Enhance the learning experience of the undergraduate student at all academic levels and work with both multicultural populations and a variety of academic support units. Candidates should also be willing to explore the integration of information technology, classroom assessment methodology, and the current research on adult developmental psychology into the curriculum. Flexibility in accepting assignments, ability to collaborate with other campus units, and developing leadership in a lab support setting are also preferred. Professional Qualifications: Prior classroom experience with a minimum of 3 years at the postsecondary level in college reading. Earned doctorate or work in progress with a specialization in college/adult reading, adult developmental psychology, or higher education. Demonstrated potential for scholarly and creative activity and professional currency. Prior laboratory or clinic experience (preferred); and.
