The 20th Annual Winter Institute On-Line Tutoring Presentation (Thursday January 7th) by
Jeanne Franco and David Gerkin, Learning Support Center, Paradise Valley Community College

Winter Institute participants were fortunate to attend a presentation given by one of the leaders of on-line tutoring services, Paradise Valley Community College. Beginning as a late-night idea by Jeanne Franco, accounting professor, the on-line tutoring services have expanded into an impressive display of technology-based services. By partnering with College faculty and actively pursuing funding opportunities, the on-line tutoring program currently offers tutoring for courses in Mathematics, Accounting, Physics, and English/Writing. Students can access one of three options for tutoring: frequently asked questions, Web Board discussion with other students and tutors, or direct e-mail to a tutor. The Learning Support Center already has in place plans to expand their on-line tutoring services in the coming year to include more disciplines and courses. The 20th Annual Winter Institute Concluding Training Exercise, Next Steps, (January 7th)
led by Frank Christ, Co-Director of WI '99

What will this year's participants do as a result of attending the 20th annual Winter Institute? As a traditional end to the sessions, Frank Christ led participants in an exercise to determine how, what and where they would apply information gathered at the Winter Institute. As a result, learning assistance professionals from across the country will be partnering with key faculty, administrators and resources on their campuses. They will be updating their center's websites as well as visiting websites of their fellow Learning Assistance Center's to gather new ideas on how to serve their student populations. In addition, may of this year's participants will be tackling on-line study skills
