For studies in adult and student learning styles
you may want to look at David Kolb's study of learning styles and learning
inventories which the Kolb wheel of phases of concrete observations,
reflective observations, abstract conceptualisation and active experimentation
and learning styles of divergers, assimilators, convergers and accommodators.

also since for distance learning one needs to be self-directed one may want to
look at the works of Knowles, Candy and merriam and caferella for theories of
self-directed learning. for a good video on distance learning, there is one by
Thomas Cyr, which was used by suffolk community college, one of the colleges i
teach at. France
