ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF LITERACY, INTERCULTURAL AND LANGUAGE EDUCATION WITH
EXPERTISE IN BILINGUAL AND ESL EDUCATION

>        Tenure Track, Beginning August 16, 2000

>Position Description:
>Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in bilingual and ESL
>education; participate in developing innovative undergraduate and
>graduate teacher education and staff development programs in bilingual
>and ESL education; conduct research; advise graduate students; direct
>doctoral dissertations; play a major role in developing the
>Department's and the College's bilingual and ESL programs at both
>campus and off-campus sites.
>
>Required Qualifications:
>Earned doctorate with an emphasis on bilingual and/or ESL Education,
>or a related field
>K-12 school teaching experience in bilingual or ESL contexts
>Background in methods, materials, and assessment in bilingual and ESL
>education
>
>Preference will be given to applicants who possess one or more of the
>following qualifications:
>Ability to teach a variety of courses leading to certification for
>bilingual and/or ESL teachers including         foundations,
>assessment, methods and materials, cross cultural studies
>Record of scholarly presentations and writings on research agenda
>pertaining to bilingual and/or ESL
>education
>Knowledge of or experience with the use of recent developments and
>new technologies in bilingual   and ESL education
>Experience in consulting and/or staff development
>Competency with a language of a population generally served by
>bilingual programs in Illinois
>
>Salary:
>Nine-month appointment and salary will be competitive.  Summer
>teaching is available based on program need and available resources.
