In the past few years at UPJ, we have placed secondary education students, disabled and in wheel chairs, into student teaching. Both had completed all the requirements in our program, including required pre-student teaching field experiences, and were thus eligible for student teaching. We found willing school districts and co-operating teachers and the student teachers were responsible for hiring someone to help with their own physical needs. They were held to the same standards as anyone being evaluated for teaching competence. Both completed student teaching and were certified. Typically, one is not hired as a teacher in Pennsylvania with an education degree but without certification. David Hayes Chair Dvision of Education U of Pittsburgh at Johnstown
