Our Writing Center is a part of the Learning Assistance Center which is housed in the Learning Resources building. It is a walk-in center which offers individual assistance in generating ideas, drafts, and revisions for writing assignments from any course. It is primarily a peer tutoring lab supervised by the Writing Specialist who also teaches for the English department. The tutors are stellar students who have been recommended by instructors in the English department. In addition to tutoring, the Writing Center keeps sample essays from a variety of courses, offers grammar and usage handouts, and provides computer assisted learning. For each tutoring session, the tutor completes a conference summary form in triplicate which is given to the student, the instructor, and the Writing Specialist. The Writing Center, as well as the whole Learning Center, receives faculty and administrative support. I'm sure there are pockets of resistance, but those individuals don't have a forum, so we just all proceed like we have good sense. :-) I hope this is the sort of info you want.
